An afternoon of Rhythmic Dialogue and Storytelling through Tabla and Bharatanatyam

Join us for an afternoon of rhythmic dialogues and storytelling presenting Ruth Prithika and Debojyoti Sanyal where the graceful movements of Bharatanatyam intertwine with the pulsating beats of the Tabla creating a mesmerizing confluence of South and North Indian classical traditions.

Bharatanatyam is an Indian classical dance believed to have originated in the temples of South India and is known for storytelling through expressive gestures. Tabla is a percussion instrument In Hindustani classical music known for its rhythmic complexity.

Ruth Prithika is a dedicated Bharatanatyam dancer by passion and a skilled Data Analyst by profession. With over two decades of experience in this classical art form, she has honed her craft under the guidance of Guru Vidyashree Radhakrishna at Gana Nritya Academy in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. Hailing from the coastal city of Mangalore, Ruth has showcased her talent on numerous prestigious stages across India and Ireland. Notable performances include the Ireland International Film Festival, Chester Beatty Culture Night, and the Indian Embassy in Dublin. Passionate about preserving and promoting Indian art, Ruth aims to raise awareness and share the beauty of Bharatanatyam through her dance. She actively engages with the younger generation, encouraging them to stay connected to their cultural heritage through workshops and performances.

Debajyoti Sanyal from Kolkata, India, is a world-class exponent of the Indian classical tabla (percussion). His training began at age four with his father and continued with luminaries of the tradition, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee and Pandit Shankar Ghosh. He tours regularly nationally and internationally, performing in a variety of contexts, from classical to experimental. He blends extraordinary virtuosity with a subtle nuance of expression.
