The lecture will look at the origins of the Irish kilt and associated garments such as the Léine (shirt) and Bráth (cloak), and their revival at the end of the 19th century. It will also examine the use of the kilt by the Gaelic League and how many of the 1916 leaders such as Tomás MacDonagh and The O’Rahilly were to the fore of the revival of the Kilt as part of Irish identity. The event is organised in association with the Irish Kilt Society.
